Kicking off the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s (APC) plan to revitalize the park’s extensive network of pathways, Desjardins Insurance has donated $500,000 to the cause.
The donation will help ensure the pathway system is in good condition for the thousands of runners, walkers and cyclists who use it throughout the year.
“The pathways in Assiniboine Park are a free and accessible way for people of all ages, interests and abilities to be active and enjoy the Park’s natural beauty year-round,” said Margaret Redmond, president and CEO of the APC in a news release. “We are grateful to Desjardins Insurance for their generosity and commitment to this project, which is an integral part of the Assiniboine Park experience.”
The gift is the largest single donation Desjardins has made in Western Canada.
“As a life and health insurer, our priority is to promote the health of all Canadians,” said Jean-Francois Chalifoux, general manager of life and health insurance with Desjardins Insurance in the release. “When we saw how the pathways in Assiniboine Park contributed to the well-being of those who use them, we knew it was a perfect fit for us.”
“We want visitors to be able to safely access park venues and attractions and enjoy the park whether they are riding a bike, pushing a stroller, or out for a run,” said Don Peterkin, COO with the APC in the release. “Our plan for the revitalization of our park pathways includes maintenance and improvement of existing pathways, enhanced accessibility and the addition of new pathways in some areas of the park. This gift will help us begin to do that.”
