In collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mint, Art Battle is hosting a special simultaneous event in five Canadian cities on March 11.The Winnipeg event is taking place at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (300 Memorial Blvd.) and is currently open for artists to register by visiting artbattle.ca

The last event took place on Feb. 21 at Maw’s Eatery and Beer Hall and sold out completely.
At the upcoming event, local artists will be painting a coin design on round canvases which could potentially be chosen to be printed.

The audience will vote to determine who wins the event and, for the first time, the event is free for spectators and supporters to attend. They do, however, need to reserve a spot online as there is limited space.

Artists take home half of the profits generated by the silent auction, which is held after each live painting round. Co-founder Simon Plashkes says the events in Winnipeg have been “stellar” so far and that they are really happy they found the right person, Kristi-Marie Guzda, to start organizing these events in Winnipeg.

There will be four more art battle evenings taking place in Winnipeg before regional and national competitions are held.
