At the corner of Portage Avenue and Bedson Street, the YMCA-YWCA West Portage branch (3550 Portage Ave.) recently received a series of renovations to better serve the community.

Staff members at the centre say the goal of the overhaul was to create a more user-friendly and inclusive facility. The YMCA-YWCA routinely carries out a number of community programs and supports the idea that feeling connected to one’s surroundings is a contributing factor to a person’s overall health.

With that in mind, the centre is holding a grand reopening on April 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. and is inviting the community to join in celebrating the new space.

The grand reopening is free for anyone to attend and is a family-friendly event. There will be a number of activities taking place in all areas of the building that are sure to offer something for everyone to enjoy. There will be drum fit sessions, water relay races, a family boot camp, pickleball in the gym and other fun happenings taking place throughout the afternoon.

There is now a dedicated youth zone near the back of the building for children to play and interact with one another as well. Stop by to check out the new water slides, universal change room renovations, and permanent cycle fit area, among many other enhancements.
