Hey there, time traveller!

Summer vacation has arrived and now in addition to outdoor fun, there are summer reading clubs and various activities and workshops at the Winnipeg Public Library.
The two reading clubs include one for children up to age 12 and a teen club for kids in grades 7 to 12. The clubs are running now and go until the end of August.
To join the children’s club, simply visit any library and register. Teenagers can sign up online at http://wpl-teens.winnipeg.ca/
Children will receive a bilingual reading activity kit which includes a calendar that kids will colour in each day they spend time reading. A caregiver reading to children also counts, so this is a perfect club for young children who may not yet know how to read.
When the calendar is returned to the library, children will receive one ballot for every five days that are coloured in. The ballots can be used for a chance to win great prizes, including tickets to a Goldeyes baseball game and swim passes.
During the summer, there will be 140 free summer workshops and programs at libraries throughout the city. At the West End Library there is family entertainment with a series of short films from the National Film Board of Canada on Aug. 9 i. In addition, Juno award-nominated Aaron Burnett will be at the library on Aug. 16 for the Summer Reading Book Club wind-up.
Tweens (ages 9 – 12) can interact with robot Dash and sidekick Dot and take part in a robot obstacle course on Weds., July 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the West End Library. Teens can participate in a Lego Story Maker Workshop on Wednesday, July 13: 2-5 pm. The Lego workshop includes writing a story, using Lego bricks and figures to build scenes then bringing the story to life using StoryVisualizer software to a comic or short graphic novel.
All of the above workshops require registration. Please call 204-986-4677 for further details and to register.
Visit the Winnipeg Public Library online to view all workshops and programs across the city: http://wpl.winnipeg.ca/library/
Reading during the summer for at least 30 minutes a day — whether comics, e-readers, magazines or books — will help keep minds active and prepared for starting school in the fall.
Choose a topic you enjoy and immerse yourself in reading about it everyday.
