Hey there, time traveller!

TYB sounds like an ice cream treat but it’s actually something you might want to do after consuming said treat.

The Yoga Barre (again, you might want to go there after hanging out at another kind of ‘bar’ the night before) is a beautifully designed yoga studio in nearby Charleswood (exactly eight minutes from Silver Heights).

Encompassing over 8,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art yoga centre offers a variety of interesting classes — from warm yoga (which means 24 C and not 40 C) that will heat your core and surprise you with how flexible you still are, to biker barre to barredio (“Picture if barre and zumba made a baby”).

Created by owner/instructor Heather Senderewich, the space includes massage rooms, spacious washrooms with showers and welcomes male and female yoga enthusiasts of all ages.

There is nothing overwhelming or smug about this facility and I found the friendliest people attend her classes.

I’ve had the fortune of knowing Heather for a couple of years and am impressed by her entrepreneurship, determination and her work ethic (she designs jewelry for Rock Candy, made the coolest glass lampshades for her studio and even works at her family’s restaurant in the country).

But the most important aspect of Heather is her thoughtfulness, which is evident in the care she has taken to create a space in which her clients can feel complete and be in a happy space.

There are so many gyms and places to go in our city but sometimes a caring person at the front desk with a warm smile and big heart can help us along further than we think.
Heather is just that person but don’t get me wrong — she can kick your butt when she instructs her class but in a fun and effective way.

So the next time you pop into Shoppers Drug Mart or the Liquor Mart in the Charleswood Centre Shopping Plaza, take a peek inside The Yoga Barre (TYB). It’s located in unit 200, on the second floor at 6640 Roblin Blvd.
