New board at Roblin Park Community Centre

A new board of directors was selected at Roblin Park Community Centre’s AGM on April 20. The positions are as follows:

• President: Kito Poblah;
• Vice-president: Tamara Pound;
• Past president: Chris Kramp;
• Secretary: Charlene Zibriski;
• Treasurer: vacant;
• Facilities and operations: Lori Chrupalo;
• Program co-ordinator: vacant;
• Community relations: Tyler Walsh;
• Sports convenor: Kevin Schiller;
• Children’s program reps: Heather Kovacs, Charlene Zibriski and one position vacant.

Poblah, a former Blue Bomber, said he’s looking forward to his new position.

“I’m glad to continue my passion in giving back and plan on hearing from you to implement strategies that will bring us closer together, to create the best environment for all those who visit the community centre. Thanks for your continued involvement with the club, and I hope to see you all in the near future,” he said in a release.

Oak Park safe grad car wash

Get your ride summer-ready at the Oak Park car wash on Sat., May 27 at the Buggy Bath Car Wash on the corner of Moray Street and Ness Avenue.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., stop by for a wash, a hot dog, drinks or baking, or drop off empty bottles to donate to the bottle drive.

Community garage sale

Buy and sell at the upcoming community garage sale, taking place Sat., June 10 at the Westdale Community Centre (550 Dale Blvd.) from 9:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Tables can be rented for $25, and participants are welcome to take part in a barbecue and family activities.

All proceeds from table rentals and the barbecue go towards rink maintenance.

West Winnipeg YMCA award recipients

The YMCA-YWCA has announced their 2017 Women of Distinction.

West Winnipeg recipients include Trudy Lavallee for Business, Professions & Trades and Dr. Diane Clare for Education, Training & Mentorship.

The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony on May 3 at the RBC Convention Centre.

St. Matthews Avenue to reopen June 2

St. Matthews Avenue continues to be completely closed between Goulding to Dominion Street. The City of Winnipeg has stated that the street will reopen on June 2.

Pedestrian sidewalks will remain open during that time.

St. James ladies’ auxiliary celebrates 90 years

The ladies auxiliary that runs out of the St. James Legion (1755 Portage Ave.) will be celebrating 90 years on Sun., May 28 with a luncheon open to the public.

The event takes place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 or $3 for children 10 and under.

In addition to lunch, guests have the chance to win prizes. To buy tickets, contact Margorie at 204-888-7874.
