Richard plans for St. James development

Michelle Richard believes that St. James needs more economic development, and more housing for seniors.

“St. James is a characteristic mature community, there’s a lot of single family housing, but there’s room for seniors housing,” Richard said. “We can bring in more diverse housing … bring in places for what we call in urban planning ‘aging in place.’ If elected, that’s something I would strongly focus on.”

Richard is running as the Progressive Conservative candidate in St. James, and she brings 25 years of community development experience with her. At her day job, she works as an urban planner, which she said gives her a greater understanding of how communities thrive.

Richard said the main issues for residents are affordability, crime and safety. She said residents of St. James want to maintain the quality of life they have.

“There are issues around affordability. These people in (St. James) have paid taxes for a very long time, and they want to see some return on investment,” Richard said. “(The Progressive Conservatives) are redirecting money into the pockets of St. James residents. The PST cut is a great example of that.”

Richard said she would look to bring more economic development to the area, bringing in more businesses and more accessible housing for seniors.

Also running in St. James are Bernd Hohne (MLP); Jeff Buhse (GPM); and Adrien Sala (NDP).
