The 2019-2020 Men of Curling calendar is on sale now and it features a St. James model.

The calendar features curlers from around the world, who set up their own photo shoots and raise money for a charity they choose. Money from calendar sales also go towards multiple charity programs, including Curling Canada’s youth programs and Ronald McDonald House.

Connor Njegovan, lead for Team Jason Gunnlaugson, didn’t know what to say when he was asked to be part of the calendar.

“I figured they were running out of athletes to add,” Njegovan said, laughing. “No, it’s a really unique opportunity, I’m really excited to be a part of it … It’s a really cool way to raise awareness for our sport and support some charities we feel passionately about.”

Njegovan is raising money for the MS Society of Canada. MS (Multiple Sclerosis) is a disease that affects the central nervous system that attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves. MS is unpredictable and can cause symptoms such as extreme fatigue, lack of co-ordination and weakness.

Currently there is no cure for MS.

Njegovan’s mother was diagnosed with MS in 2000. He wants to raise awareness of the disease so a cure can be found.

“I witnessed first-hand how it can change day to day activities in a family. I was pretty young when mom got diagnosed, but you just notice every year there are certain things she’s not able to do anymore,” Njegovan said. “It’s just about raising awareness … Anything I can to do help is exciting to me.”

The calendar is a joint effort by The Community Fundraiser, an organization that publishes calendars for charity causes, and George Karrys, former publisher of The Curling News. The calendar contains a list of all 2019-20 curling event dates along with photos and bios of each model.

The Men of Curling calendar costs $34.95. For more information, or to purchase a calendar, visit menofcurling.com
