Diversity Food Services, which operates six food outlets at the University of Winnipeg, has won another award for its sustainable business practices.
The social enterprise was named the “Champion of Sustainability” at the Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards. The award is given to an individual, organization or business which has made a “notable contribution to sustainability, and advancing sustainable practices in a community or a business sector,” according to the website.
“We are proud to be the recipient of this very important award. We want to thank UWinnipeg’s Campus Sustainability Office for nominating us and thank Sustainable Development Manitoba for recognizing the accomplishments of organizations around the province,” said Ian Vickers, Diversity’s chief operating officer in a statement. “It’s always a pleasure to see so many great organizations leading the way to a sustainable future.”

In August 2019, the University of Winnipeg was listed as having the most sustainable campus meals in North America, scoring 89 per cent from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
WE24 asking residents to donate meals
West End 24-Hour Safe Space (WE24) is looking for residents to donate cooked meals to the centre for their young clientele.
The organization has started a Meal Train for residents who want to make food for around 35 to 45 young people. Residents can sign up by going to mealtrain.com/9gm57o, and pledging to drop off food on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
WE24 is a 24-hour safe space for youth that aims to provide them with housing, resources such as EIA information, as well as referrals.
The space is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. The organizers specify that the food be not very spicy, and anything that can be frozen and stored is a bonus.
For more information, or to donate a meal, go to mealtrain.com/9gm57o or contact WE24 at 204-333-9681.
