Assiniboine Valley Railway hosting Christmas Rides
Residents looking to enjoy a festive train ride can get their fix during the holiday season.
The Assiniboine Valley Railway, Inc., will be hosting three daytime Christmas Public Ride Weekends. Residents will be able to hop on the train for the weekends of Dec. 21 and 22, December 28 and 29, and Jan. 4 and 5.
The train is a one-eighth-scale railway located at 3001 Roblin Blvd., which will take riders through a scenic winter landscape decorated with Christmas lights.
Rides are $3, two for $5, and a 10-ride pass is $20. Kids two and under ride free. Hot chocolate is for sale.
The club is also looking for donations of LED lights and extension cords. For more information, visit assiniboinevalleyrailway.org
Assiniboine Park Zoo closing for maintenance
Residents will have to say goodbye to the polar bears and other critters for a week in January.
Assiniboine Park Zoo will be closed to the public from Mon., Jan. 6, through to Sun., Jan. 12.
The closure will allow the staff to complete minor repairs, deep cleaning, as well as other maintenance projects throughout the entire property. The zoo will re-open at 9 a.m. on Mon., Jan. 13.
“This annual closure provides us with an excellent opportunity to complete a sizable amount of work during a relatively short period of time without impacting the visitor experience,” Archie Pronger, vice-president of operations said in a statement. “It has worked well the past two years, so we decided to move forward with a similar plan this year to make some general improvements throughout the property.”
Visitor services in the zoo entrance, retail and food and beverage operations within the zoo will also be closed during this time.
