Pembina Trails mulling purchase offer for Chapman School site

The Pembina Trails School Division board has been directed by the Minister of Education to accept an offer from a local real estate company to purchase the former Chapman School site at 3707 Roblin Blvd.

Tuxedo Lands Ltd. submitted a bid to buy the property on Jan. 10 — this is the second time the property had been listed for sale. A previous offer from Iglesia Ni Cristo Church of Christ was rejected by the province in 2018.

Tuxedo Lands is owned by Marc Kipnes and Myles Kraut, according to the province’s business registry.

 Kipnes and Kraut also own Karma Development Corp., which made an offer on the Chapman School property during the first round of bidding. 

The board rejected Karma’s initial offer following outcry from nearby residents who wanted to maintain the school’s greenspace and were opposed to condo development on the property. 

A notice of motion posted on the division’s website reads: 

“THAT, pursuant to the direction of the Minister of Education, the Board, subject to the approval of the Public Schools Finance Board, accept the offer from Tuxedo Lands, Inc. (sic), dated January 10, 2019, to purchase the Chapman School property…”

Representatives from the division declined to comment on the bid. 

The Tuxedo Lands offer is subject to the approval of the Public Schools Finance Board and will be discussed by trustees at a public board meeting on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. at the division’s administration office at 181 Henlow Bay.
