PC Candidate for St. Vital Colleen Mayer has been involved in community matters for many years and at many levels.

The 48-year-old mother of two was elected as a trustee for the Louis Riel School Division in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. That experience placed her in a role where she could contribute to the lives and education of young people. It also provided knowledge and insight about the needs of the community. She’s felt compelled to take on a bigger role since.

Elected as the new MLA for St. Vital in 2016, her experience includes serving as the Minister of Crown Services. Prior to that, Mayer was a member of the Treasury Board, and acted as the assistant deputy speaker.

Mayer and her husband are longtime residents of St. Vital and live in the Elm Park area with their two sons Quinn and Ethan. Her passion for education in early childhood development can be seen in most areas of her life. She and her family have been actively involved with the Winnipeg Homestay program as a host for international students.

“It’s been rewarding, eye-opening, and has enriched my kids’ lives,” Mayer said about hosting students from all over the world. Proud of her community, she enjoys being able to explore and celebrate St. Vital with them.

For Mayer, priority issues in this election include affordability, child care, enhancing early childhood education, and taking care of the future.

She’s been an active community volunteer for 20 years, giving her time to many organizations including the United Way, the Windsor Community Centre board of directors and the Youth Justice Committee.

Mayer has proudly watched the growth and development of neighbourhood groups and organizations and shown support whenever possible.

“Marlene Family Resource Centre, Save our Seine, Bishop Grandin Greenway… These are gems in our community. It’s a lot about showing up and being there for them. It’s not always about the money. I don’t just show up to eat pancakes. I serve the pancakes and help clean up afterwards,” she said.

“I’m extremely honoured that the people of St. Vital have put their trust in me to represent them in public service. Being able to help constituents solve problems, that’s the biggest reward,” she added.
Mayer said she is dedicated to improving the community and grateful for volunteers and family who support her along the way.

The election is Sept. 10.
