Last month I had the pleasure of meeting an exceptional athlete at the University of Manitoba.
In fact, she was a recent graduate from Linden Christian School in my constituency of Fort Whyte.
Montana Kinzel is in her first year with the Bison Women’s Basketball program. I was pleased to have had the opportunity to support her pursuit of athletics and education. She was awarded $1,000 through the scholarship fund we sponsor at the University of Manitoba.
My wife Esther and I are passionate about sport and education. We both played basketball at the university level and understand the commitment required. Esther played five seasons with the
University of Manitoba Bison Women and I played three seasons with the Brandon University Bobcats. Of course, those who are aware know Esther has always been the better player of the two of us.
Now, our youngest daughter Shawn is in her first year with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Basketball Team. The importance of sport coupled with education is a given in our family as it is for countless others.
To date my family and I have assisted more than 100 students in furthering their education and athletic pursuits through scholarship programs established across the province. We share a vision for a prosperous Manitoba where our youth can reach their potential and we look forward to continuing to support the pursuit of excellence in our high school and university students and athletes.
