The Pembina Trails School Division has selected a principal for the new school set to open in South Pointe in 2016.
Ruthanne Dyck was announced as principal on April 24. Dyck is currently the principal of Whyte Ridge Elementary School.
“The chance to create a school culture from the ground up is exhilarating,” Dyck said in a statement. “I am both humbled and honoured about the incredibly exciting opportunity that I have been given. I can hardly wait to meet the students, staff and parents and begin shaping our learning community.”
Dyck has been an educator for 29 years and was formerly principal at Laidlaw School and vice-principal at Chancellor School. According to a statement released by the division, she also holds a master’s in Educational Administration, a bachelor of education, administrator’s level one and two certifications — Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching training and certification, and level two cognitive coaching training.
The new school in South Pointe will be a kindergarten to Grade 8 dual-track facility accommodating between 450 and 550 students, with a capacity of 800.
