The Winnipeg School Division (WSD) announced new boundaries for Sir William Osler and École LaVérendrye French milieu programs on Dec. 7.

The change only affects new student registrations.

“Trustees continue to follow three key principles to align with the community’s needs: minimize disruption to families; provide consistency in terms of daycare; and support the needs of the community,” WSD board chair Mark Wasyliw said in a statement. “The division’s administration and buildings teams worked with the school’s parent advisory council to do a remarkable job getting Sir William Osler ready for students this past summer. Teachers at École LaVérendrye put in countless hours to ensure their classrooms were ready for their Nursery to Grade 1 students in September.”

According to Wasyliw, students have settled into the new William Osler site and the division continues to work with the province to make renovations to William Osler for a nursery to Grade 8 setting.

The division says a new gymnasium and music room at LaVerendrye will be complete by September 2016, when construction on additional classrooms can begin.

Students currently attending Sir William Osler in nursery to Grade 1 during the September 2015 to June 2016 school year will have the option to be grandfathered back to LaVérendrye when the new classrooms are completed, the WSD said.

However new students registering for French milieu nursery or kindergarten in the south part of Winnipeg School Division will be required to register according to the newly approved boundaries.
