Dinosaur exhibit to open at Assiniboine Park Zoo

The polar bears at Assiniboine Park Zoo may no longer be the apex predator of the park.

Scheduled to open in late May, the zoo is bringing Dinosaurs Alive!, presented by Artis REIT, to the park.

The exhibit will feature 15 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods located along a forested trail in the northwest area of the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

According to the zoo, Dinosaurs Alive! is an  immersive and comprehensive dinosaur experience and has received rave reviews in markets across North America, including Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary.

The exhibit allows visitors to step back in time to the prehistoric era as the lifelike dinosaurs move and roar, demonstrating how they may have looked and moved in a natural environment millions of years ago.

“Dinosaurs Alive! will be a prehistoric playground for people of all ages and a true adventure of science and discovery that we know our visitors from near and far are absolutely going to love,” Gary Lunsford, head of zoological operations, said. “This is going to be a fantastic addition to the experience people will have at the Zoo this summer and we can’t wait to see people experiencing it first-hand.”

The exhibit includes well-known species such as the three-horned Triceratops and the Tyrannosaurus rex, as well as an excavation site where children can discover what it’s like to be a paleontologist.

The entire exhibit experience will be included in regular Zoo admission and will be in Winnipeg for a limited time only this summer. A specific opening date will be announced later this spring.
