When Luxalune closed this past February, it left vacant a prime piece of real estate at the heart of South Osborne.

It took a few months, but signs have finally been put up at 734 Osborne announcing the building’s new tenants. WPG Cycle Spin Studio is set to open next month.

A spin studio is a place to practice indoor cycling, also known as ‘spinning.’ Such facilities have been taking off in Toronto and Calgary and WPG Cycle is hoping the same will happen here.

According to its Facebook page, WPG Cycle will be Winnipeg’s “exclusive spinning facility,” aiming to provide a workout, but also an experience. They are inviting future patrons to exercise their bodies, minds, and souls by ‘spinning’ to the beat of their “heart-pumping sound system.”

It all sounds a little intense but cycling provides a lower-impact strenuous workout. The atmosphere is designed to encourage people of all fitness levels to push themselves through positivity in a community of like-minded people.

With money being spent on active transportation, Winnipeg is becoming a more bicycle-friendly city. The culture surrounding the sport is alive as well, as one of Canada’s greatest all-time Olympians, Clara Hughes, was born here.

South Osborne already has a fairly extensive network of bike paths, and the South Osborne Bike Hub has been busy helping area residents maintain their bikes for another season. The area now has a facility for cyclists to practise during the long winter months.

If you’re mourning the closure of a gastropub that served beers you couldn’t get anywhere else in the city, I feel your pain. But it is also exciting to see that modern entrepreneurs think South Osborne is a good place to do business.

Check WPG Cycle’s website for a chance to join the ‘spin squad’ and win a free one-month membership valid when the facility opens in September. You might immerse yourself in a culture that is positive while keeping you in shape.
