Pembina Curling Club receives $10k grant for renos

• The Pembina Curling Club received a $10,000 community incentive grant from the River Heights-Fort Garry ward to support kitchen renovations at the club.
The project includes the purchase of new kitchen equipment and upgrades to the air make-up and exhaust systems and fire suppression system, according to documents submitted to the City.
The overall project will cost $50,000 according to documents.
• Couns. Jenny Gerbasi (Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry) and John Orlikow (River Heights-Fort Garry) contributed $200 per capita grants to the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres for the
“Above and Beyond Banquet” honouring community centre volunteers.
• Gerbasi and Orlikow both approved $200 per capita grants for the Winnipeg Police Association’s fifth annual Cool 2Be Kind Campaign.
• The Brenda Leipsic Dog Parkers Inc. received a $200 per capita grant from the River Heights-Fort Garry ward for the Gaining Ground For Your Hound event, held on Sept. 25.
• Per capita grants in the amount of $225.35 and $221.50 were approved for the Brock Street Block Party and Oak Street Safe Halloween, respectively, from the River Heights-Fort Garry ward. The grants will be used to cover the costs of permits for road closures in the neighbourhood.
• Plans for a new condo development at 260 Wellington Cres. were approved unanimously at City Centre committee. Rezoning and variances were previously approved at community committee in February 2015.
• A subdivision, rezoning, conditional use and variances to create a four-unit residential complex at 757 and 759 Jubilee Avenue were unanimously approved at committee. The two-storey development will be built on two 25-foot lots which have been consolidated.
Councillors approved the rezoning from R1 to R2 to allow for the multifamily development.
