Yazidi families arrive in Winnipeg

The local Yazidi resettlement organization Operation Ezra welcomed two more families to Winnipeg last week.

The Dakheel family of four, and the Salih family of 11, arrived at Richardson International Airport from Turkey on Dec. 21.

Operation Ezra is a coalition of religious and community groups, including Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and Mennonite Central Committee, working together to privately sponsor seven refugee Yazidi families. Yazidis are a religious ethnic minority in Iraq that has historically faced persecution and is currently being targeted by ISIS.
