Where did the time go? This is a common question each December, as I notice the last page of the calendar. What a year it has been!
I began 2017 as the legislative assistant to the Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage, and traveled throughout many regions of Manitoba while conducting a Library Systems review. We have some of the most dedicated librarians in Canada, and are truly blessed with their time and expertise.
The Canada Summer Games, hosted in our beautiful city, was a fascinating opportunity to witness the magic of volunteers creating wonderful memories for our visitors. It was an honour to attend many of the sporting events, as well as to participate in a medal ceremony for cycling.
Folklorama continued its tradition of amazing talents within each cultural group, and is another reflection of what our great volunteer community can accomplish.
By the end of the summer, I had been reassigned as the legislative assistant to the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living. I have great respect for all who work within this department, as well as for those who take on the task of providing the best health care possible for our most vulnerable. For years they have been working within a system that is broken and not achieving the results our citizens deserve. Even through the disruptions and uncertainties of change, we have seen their professionalism and their determination to reach the goal of better patient care.
Thank you to those who are part of making Manitoba the most improved province. Your contributions will ultimately set the course for a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren.
Last week I was able to spend some time visiting local daycares and senior homes. It is a special treat to see the excitement on children’s faces as they prepare for a special holiday with their families. And although they are on the opposite end of the age spectrum, the joy on the faces of the seniors I visited was no different!
As another year comes to a close, it is good to reflect on where we have been while keeping an eye on where we are going. The New Year will hold challenges of its own, yet I am confident that our government will overcome them with your help.
Happy New Year, Fort Richmond!
