Pilates Manitoba Wellness Centre (390 Academy Rd.) has brought a new class to Winnipeg that is perfect for athletes, those looking for well-being or people in pain.

Called the ELDOA method (the acronym is for a long French phrase — Étirements longitudinaux aver decoaptation osteo-articulaire, or longitudinal osteoarticular decoaptation stretches), is carefully designed to “create space” within a precise joint or a segment of the spine using myofascial tension and muscle contraction.

“I felt so good after taking my first ELDOA class that I immediately wanted it in my life full-time. I felt taller, like I’d been stretched out on a rack, opening up my joints and spacing out my spine,” said Annabel Scott, owner of Pilates Manitoba and certified ELDOA instructor.

Sou'wester ELDOA classes are now being offered by the Pilates Manitoba Wellness Centre on Academy Road.

Annabel says that anyone can take the class and no previous experience with Pilates or yoga is needed.

ELDOA provides great relief and internal health awareness (the inside cellular stuff you cannot see or feel).

The goal is not to gain flexibility. When you stretch, you are elongating a muscle but when you do an ELDOA, you are contracting a muscle. It works with the nervous system, rather than on muscle flexibility.

Pilates Manitoba offers a variety of other classes including Pilates, yoga, trampoline, Spanish Pilates and Portuguese Pilates, and fitness for disabilities.
