The 135-room, six-storey project will be developed and operated by Kothari Group — the same developer behind the Murano Gardens project in the Linden Woods neighbourhood.

The new hotel will be a part of the Seasons development which includes the new Outlet Collection Winnipeg, Hilton Garden Inn, Ikea, a number of restaurants, and residential properties.

According to officials, the pet-friendly Hyatt House will feature 80 apartment-style kitchen suites, 55 “upscale guestrooms,” an indoor and outdoor lounge, and over 3,000-square-feet of meeting spaces.

Five new transit inspectors join fleet

Winnipeg Transit is hoping more eyes on the buses will improve safety for riders and passengers.

On June 7, Transit announced five new transit inspectors have been added to rotation on buses and on-street.

Inspectors are a strong presence on-street and are familiar with all aspects of the transit system, can assist passengers with transit-related information, and are enforcement officers for the public transit bylaw, according to the City of Winnipeg.

Other safety initiatives, as recommended in a report prepared by Winnipeg Transit, included a pilot project to test bus operator safety barriers, the creation of a Transit Advisory Committee to review industry practices, assess and determine trends, and recommend strategies to improve safety, an advertising campaign to encourage customers to report undesirable behavior, and stronger reporting procedures with the Winnipeg Police Service.

According to the City, these have all been implemented. Subsequently, one instructor and three dedicated relief operators have been added to provide additional ongoing training for operators to prevent and defuse conflict, and four new point duty inspectors were hired to assist operators and passengers at set strategic locations.
