From childhood to senior years, Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies, established in 1946 as a family business, has you covered with more than 80,000 products to meet your rehabilitation or health needs.

The store is located at 75 Poseidon Bay, in the same building as the Pan Am Clinic.

This is an excellent location as, on average, some 250,000 patients pass through the clinic’s doors annually, many of whom may need may need one or more of the store’s products. I have been a frequent customer lately and, of course, you don’t need to be a Pan Am patient to shop at Diamond.

Diamond is an efficient and effective operation. When you enter, you take a number and in a matter of minutes one of the many staff members will be at your side. They are attentive listeners, ask additional questions if necessary, and somehow know just where to locate the product requested. They also answer all the questions you have and often provide additional information. Whether you need five minutes or a half hour, the staff provides the time without hesitation.

If you require a brace, shoe inserts, a particular type of walker, or anything that needs fitting, they will measure as needed and help you try the item.

For example, when I rented a walker, I was asked a few questions such as my height, what type of walker I wanted and how long I expected to use it. A couple of walkers were brought out which needed height adjustments were made to assure the fit was correct. I was given advice on how to use the walker properly.     

For those with dexterity problems, there are numerous devices to help such as one for picking up dropped items, or a specialized piece of cutlery. Aids to enhance safety and comfort in the bathroom and elsewhere are also stocked, as are pillows of various types for support of different parts of the body.

Even slippers are part of their wares. I looked online at the Nufoot non-slip slippers for athletic activities such as yoga or for travel. They come in various styles and colours and care is simple — machine wash them in cold water and air dry.

For mothers-to-be, there are pre- and post-natal products. In addition, Diamond stocks massage therapy goods.
