New public washrooms open at La Barriere Park

A new washroom facility is solidifying La Barriere Park as a destination for southwest Winnipeg.

The park, located south of the La Salle River at Waverley Street, recently had two new cricket pitches built and is becoming more popular with residents in southwest Winnipeg, Coun. Janice Lukes (Waverley West) said.

“The La Salle River offers fishing, canoeing and kayaking, there are baseball diamonds, picnic areas, pathways, Frisbee golf and new cricket fields,” said Lukes. “The new public washrooms we are adding will make visiting the park an even more comfortable experience for all.”

The washroom is four-season, universally accessible, and has an open air vestibule to provide shelter. It is located off the main parking lot, near the sports and picnic areas. The facility was funded from the public works department capital budget to the tune of $500,000.

The new toilet rooms replace seasonal public washrooms that were build in the mid-1960s.
