A much-anticipated dining and entertainment hub is gearing up for its grand opening next month.

The Rec Room, located at Seasons of Tuxedo on Sterling Lyon Parkway, will offer something for guests of all ages in its 42,000-square-foot space. This gathering spot is the eighth of its kind to open across Canada, providing a go-to destination for fabulous food, amusing attractions and live entertainment. In total, the venue will be able to accommodate 1,200 guests.

For those looking for a full-service casual meal, they can check out the dining area, called Three10, in honour of the territories and provinces of Canada.

“The menus are Canadian-influenced and we also celebrate the multiculturalism of Canada with great pops of flavour. You’ll find burgers, pizza, grill items, fresh salads and lots of other great foods for social occasions,” said Christina Kuypers, vice-president of operations and guest experience.
“We make everything from scratch with a commitment to the quality of our food. We have a nice big open kitchen, which brings a lot of energy to the dining room.”

Another food and beverage outlet called The Shed is geared for quick dining on tasty treats such as poutine and mini donuts. The Shed also serves a selection of draught beers, wine and cocktails.
Another bar area, located at the back of The Rec Room, is attached to its live entertainment space called The Hall, complete with a stage and dance floor. This bar features a four-by-four screen matrix that will show all the big games, along with more than 50 additional screens throughout the venue.

In addition to musical acts, a full slate of entertainment will include comedy, sports talks, karaoke, trivia and more. The Hall can also be closed off as a private function space for corporate or social events.

A second private event space called The Den is fully equipped with audio-visual technology for any type of function.

“Events are a big part of our offerings,” Kuypers said. “It’s great for meetings, dinners, team-building events, but also bachelorettes, birthdays, everything.”

The Den opens up into the bright and bustling attractions area called The Yard, which is equipped with 120 amusement games organized thematically into different zones. Players can earn points to redeem at The Trophy Case for everything from collectibles and branded merchandise to big-ticket items such as drones or Play Stations.

“This is one of our largest games floors across our circuit of eight locations,” Kuypers said.
“What’s super special about this location is that we have a full suite of attractions.”

The Rec Room also features six lanes of bowling, four lanes of axe-throwing and various bar games such as ping pong, pool and darts.

Another highlight is the virtual reality arena where up to six players can participate untethered.

“We suit you up with goggles, helmet and pack, but unlike other VR, you’re not actually wired to anything. You can roam freely within the space. It’s very competitive and completely immersive. You literally step into another world,” Kuypers said.

“We also have three pods where two players can play different games untethered in there. We’ve invested in top-of-the-line virtual reality technology and the graphics are amazing.”

The Rec Room is expected to open to the public in mid-February. Recruitment is underway for about 190 permanent jobs, including 15 full-time management roles.
