Vincent Massey Collegiate volleyballer is MHSAA athlete of the week

The Manitoba High School Athletics Association’s urban athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 27 was Udhay Chatha of the Vincent Massey Trojans volleyball team.

Chatha was instrumental in leading the Trojans to semi-finals at the Royal Spike-off, where he helped his team earn three wins to get a 3-3 start.

 He has also led the Huskies to a 4-0 start in West Winnipeg Athletic Conference tier 1 play, along with a second-place finish at the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate tournament and a third-place finish at the Bandits tournament.

“Udhay is a fierce competitor, exceptional teammate and talented volleyball player. He is a dominant force at the net as both a middle blocker and spiker,” coach Marshall Jones said in a statement.

“Udhay has a drive to learn and improve and is constantly looking for ways to get better, but also takes pride in his ability to lead and help his teammates.”

A Grade 12 student, Chatha maintains a 90 per cent academic average while also competing in soccer.

MHSAA athlete of the week awards are sponsored by Dairy Farmers of Manitoba.
