As MLA for Tuxedo, I have frequently visited the Rady Jewish Community Centre both to discuss issues important to the Jewish community and to enjoy some of their excellent cultural and athletic programming.
What I have come to learn is that there is always something exciting happening at Rady. Their fitness and wellness centre provides 54,000 square-feet of resistance training and cardio equipment along with a massive salt water pool and children’s play area. Staffed with several athletic trainers, members of the fitness and wellness centre can participate in exercise programs specifically designed for them.
Rady’s cultural programming is also among the best in Winnipeg. The People of the Book Jewish book club, which facilitates discussion and debate about a range of Jewish-themed literature, and the Izzy Asper Jazz Performance concert series, are just two outstanding examples of the full range of cultural activities available at the centre.
It was with this in mind that I was proud to recently announce a $1,500 investment in the Rady Jewish Community Centre’s Music ‘N’ Mavens concert and lecture series.
Music ‘N’ Mavens provides so many members of our community with enriching indoor entertainment during the winter months. Starting on Jan. 23 and ending March 22, the series takes place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3 p.m. and attracts up to 1,200 people for its unique performances by local artists and lectures by renowned experts on various topics.
This year’s series will also help the Rady Jewish Community Centre build partnerships outside of Tuxedo.
Two of this year’s performances are hosted by the Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre for older adults at 1588 Main St. — the recent performance by jazz pianist Katrina Van Humbeck on Jan. 31 and the upcoming performance by folk-rock ensemble John Wrublowsky, Harvey Peltz, and Ken Hodges on Feb. 28.
The performances and lectures offered by Music ‘N’ Mavens are second to none and I encourage all Tuxedo residents to check them out.
I am so proud to be part of a government that supports our arts community and I know that our investment will go a long way to making Music ‘N’ Mavens another incredible success this year.
