Local coaches recognized for contributions

Sport Manitoba gave out its annual Coaching Manitoba IMPACT Awards on April 23.

Local coaches James Daly and Dennis Hrycaiko were recognized for their contributions to athlete development in Manitoba.

Daly, who was instrumental in the development of the track and field program at the University of Manitoba, received the Global News Active for Life Coach award.

Daly’s accomplishments also include managing Canada’s Olympic team in 1964 and serving as the executive director of the 1967 Pan American Games, among other positions.

A University of Manitoba professor and dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, Hrycaiko received the Investors Group Coach Developer Award.

Other coaches who were recognized include Ryan Fines who received the Vince Leah Memorial Award (Fundamentals Category); Brent Lohmer who received the Dr. Jack Hunt Memorial Award; Jason Darragh and Heather Tataryn of Teulon, Man. received the Peter Dick Award; and a past-president of the Fort Rouge Curling Club, Tom Clasper received the Peter Williamson Memorial Award.
