Crusaders football program continues to dominate
The St. Paul’s Crusaders have proved their merit on the gridiron once again.
The Crusaders won the Winnipeg High School Football League’s AAA ANAVETS Bowl on Nov. 9 at Investors Group Field.

The team was undefeated in regular season play and continued its winning streak on the turf of the CFL stadium, beating the Dakota Collegiate Lancers 35-0.
Grade 11 quarterback Brody Lawson was named the bowl MVP.
“The 2017 season saw a lot of change for the team however one area where we had a veteran presence from the 2016 season was along the offensive and defensive line,” Crusaders head coach Stacy Dainard said. “This stability allowed us to figure out a few thing offensively and defensively both personnel wise and scheme wise.
“The players worked hard all season and things came together very well for us when it mattered most; namely, the semifinal and the ANAVETS Bowl final where the team played its best football of the year.”
The championship title is the second consecutive banner for the Crusaders. The team has also played in the AAA final for the past 10 years.

Kelvin faces off for holiday fundraiser
Members of the Kelvin Clippers female hockey team were out scoring donations for charity on Nov. 15.
The team hosted a league game at the River Heights Arena against the Vincent Massey Collegiate Trojans with ticket sales going towards the school’s annual holiday breakfast.
The game raised over $100 to support the breakfast where students and staff will give their time supervising, running stations, cooking, cleaning, and managing the hundreds of young people involved in serving breakfast at Norquay School.
The Kelvin community also fundraises to purchase a new toy for each child, contacts local businesses for support, bakes hundreds of cookies, and sew stockings for the guests. The breakfast will be on Dec. 8.
Kelvin defeated VMC 5-4.
