The Kildonan East Reivers captured the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association’s AAAA varsity boys provincial basketball championship on March 24, running and gunning their way to a 67-52 victory over the Dakota Lancers in the final at the Investors Group Athletic Centre on the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus.

Reivers forward Settimo Yugu scored 20 points, brought down nine rebounds, and went on to be named the most valuable player of the provincial tournament. Guard Rushawn Martin chipped in with 11 points, while Jean Dusimimana had nine, Aiden Walker seven and Terry Ogbeide collected six points.

The Lancers’ Daniel Rom scored 22 points for his team, which led 19-17 after the first quarter, but trailed 34-22 at the half and 51-35 at the half as the Reivers’ fast-breaking offence and aggressive half-court defense proved too much.
