A focused and determined young man

Owen Ojoromongo is a 12-year-old, Grade 7 student at École South Pointe School. He is very active and enjoys playing a bunch of sports.
“I am involved in most sports at school such as badminton, soccer, basketball, track, and ultimate Frisbee,” he said. “School is going well. My favorite class is gym class because I am able to be active and have fun taking part in physical activities.”
Away from school, Owen’s favourite sport is soccer, which he plays at club with Bonivital Soccer Club.

“Soccer is the sport I am most focused on,” he said. “Soccer gives me the opportunity to be active, be part of a team, and learn new skills all while having fun. Soccer also gives me the ability to learn sportsmanship and teamwork.”
Owen plays goalkeeper, and he knows it means he really has to focus on the game.
“I like this position because it is a challenge and it pushes me to my limits,” he said. “I feel like this position requires you to be alert and always thinking about what is coming up.”
Owen also enjoys practising and playing with the support of his teammates and coaches.
“I like my teammates. We are hard working and supportive of each other. We push each other to be the best version of ourselves,” he said. “I am very thankful for our coaches. They are extremely supportive, and push me to do my best, whether through praise or discipline, so that I can reach my full potential.”
Owen and his mom, Michelle Kulikowski, live in southwestWinnipeg.
“I want to say thank you to my mom for always being there and supporting me with all my dreams,” he said.
Owen is a very well-spoken, thoughtful, and smart young man. He is willing to commit to a strong work ethic to achieve his dreams.
“I want to continue to improve my ability to become better, stronger, and faster,” he said. “I will work hard and do all I can to make the team for this upcoming season.”
Owen’s ultimate dream is to maybe one day play professionally in the sport he loves. He knows this will take a lot of hard and determined work.
With this in mind, Owen shares this advice with all athletes: “Don’t give up on your dreams!”
