Wesmen women’s soccer forward
Shae-Lynn Dodds was named to the Canada West second all-star team last week — a first for the University of Winnipeg’s soccer program.
The second-year player and Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate alumna set another program record by scoring seven goals this season.
“Shae-Lynn was an integral piece to our side this season, and she has a bright future in the game,” Wesmen head coach Amy Anderson said in a statement. “Our program is in good hands with her going forward, and I’m exceptionally proud of her for this well-deserved honour.”
Dodds had a four-match streak in the middle of the season with at least one goal scored, capped with her first career two-goal match Sept. 30 at Mount Royal.
The all-star and all-rookie teams were
selected by the conference’s 16 women’s soccer head coaches.
The Wesmen finished the regular season with a 0-10-4 record.
Sturgeon Heights hockey player named athlete of the week
Huskies hockey forward Ryan Ostermann was the Manitoba High School Athletics Association’s urban athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 31.
The Grade 12 Sturgeon Heights player is currently the second-highest goal scorer in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League’s Platinum Promotions Division. Ostermann scored five goals in two games last week, including one hat trick.
“Ryan’s speed, size and heavy shot make him a threat every shift,” Huskies coach Tyler Metcalfe said in a statement. “His versatility playing centre, wing and even defense see him logging huge minutes for our team.”
Ostermann is the team’s assistant captain and maintains a strong academic standing. He also plays on the team’s golf
