Community centres receive reno grants
The City of Winnipeg recently announced that 13 community centres will receive a total of over $1 million in grants for renovation projects, as part of its Community Centre Renovation Grant Program’s fall 2024 intake.
“These grants are an investment in the heart of our neighbourhoods — our community centres,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “By supporting renovations and upgrades, we’re ensuring these spaces remain accessible and well-equipped to meet the needs of Winnipeggers.”

Of those 13 community centres, five are located east of the Red River: Dakota Community Centre (1188 Dakota St.) will receive $96,541 towards installing accessibility platforms and door access for its two ice rinks;
Gateway Recreation Centre (1717 Gateway Rd.) will receive $100,000 towards replacing its outdoor skating rink;
Greendell Park Community Centre (75 Woodlawn Ave.) will receive $72,425 for exterior painting;
Notre Dame Recreational Centre (271 avenue de la Cathédrale) will receive $100,000 for upgrades to its arena and community centre; and
Oxford Heights Community Centre (359 Dowling Ave. E) will receive $60,389 to replace flooring.
According to the city, the program has two intake periods each year: a spring intake in March and a fall intake in October. Since the program’s inception in 2012, the city has invested over $18.5 million towards community centre renovations across Winnipeg.
