St. George’s Anglican Church (Crescentwood) held a “baby shower” on March 26 as way of reminding parishioners that it continues to accept donations of new and handmade baby clothing and related items for the Thelma Wynne Project. Wynne was a member of the Anglican Church Women’s Dioscesan board for Rupert’s Land who spearheaded many donations campaigns and appeals in the late 1960s and through the ’70s.

The Women’s Commission of the Diocese of Rupert’s Land named its newborn donations campaign in Wynne’s honour in 1983, and the work of collecting items for newborn-baby layettes continues to this day at St. George’s. Items such as bibs, socks, receiving blankets (30 x 30 inches) and travel-size lotions and soaps for mothers are always needed.
