Phoenix Winter Carnival slated for Feb. 3 to 9

The annual Phoenix Fire Winter Carnival at Phoenix Community Centre (153 Seeking St.) in Headingley is set to take place Feb. 3 to 9.

The carnival’s main events are a U7 and U9 house league hockey tournaments, which will take place throughout the week. Young hockey aficionados will also be invited to participate in a skills competition.

As well, on Friday, Feb. 7, the community centre will be the site of a barbecue and fireworks show. Entry is free. The carnival is also offering a silent auction, door prizes, and awards for participating tournament players.

At press time, team registration for the tournament was open, with three games guaranteed. Fees are $350 for U7 teams and $400 for U9.

Registration open for Starbuck curling bonspiel

Registration is currently open for teams of all skill levels looking to take part in the Starbuck curling bonspiel, to be held Feb. 6 to 9 at the Starbuck Rink (60 Arena Blvd.).

Registration is $250 per team. The bonspiel will also feature prizes, a 50/50 draw, a calcutta auction, and a meal for participating players.
