The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre was lit with candles, music and celebration on May 6, when residents and family celebrated eight special birthdays at its annual centenarian celebration.

Edith Allen, 104; Violet Nychuk, 103; Adele Heidinger, 101; Edith Landy, 104; Blossom Brounstein, 102; Miriam Brown, 100; and Sonya Kaminsky, who will be 100 in June, were each honoured with plaques from the mayor and speeches detailing their history and contributions to Winnipeg and their local communities. These ranged from Landy’s 40 years at Health Sciences Centre, Kaminsky’s time at B’nai B’rith, and Brown’s victory at a bridge tournament in the Bahamas.
