North Point Village moving ahead

Old Kildonan

The Lord Selkirk-West Kildonan community committee met for a special meeting — the last meeting before breaking for the summer — on July 11.

Only one item was on the agenda: a plan approval for a proposed community consisting of two six-storey apartment buildings — with a shared number of 281 residential units — and outdoor amenities for those living there, such as a pergola (a shaded lounging area) and a playground.

The proposed development, submitted by Whiteland Real Estate and Landmark Planning and Design, is called Polaris Place and would be located along North Point Boulevard, north of Garden City. If completed, it would be an addition to North Point Village, a planned neighbourhood for the Old Kildonan ward, currently in-progress.

The proposed master plan for the area includes three residential multi-family phases with approximately 770 dwelling units overall, as well as room for mixed-use commercial buildings.

The site approved at this meeting is included in phase one and 4.11 acres in size.

Plans also include a parking area with 372 stalls (over 60 per cent would be located below-ground), three car-share spots for vehicles owned by Peg City Car Co-op, and 62 bike stalls.
