New banners bring Indigenous art, teachings to West End streets

Voices of the Land, the Balmoral Banner Project by Métis artist Justine Proulx, features 12 original designs pairing Manitoba animals and plants to share Indigenous teachings.

To celebrate, a free, artist-led walking tour to check out the banners will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Nuit Blanche, which takes place this year on Saturday, Sept. 27. The tour will begin at Saigon Park (Ellice Ave at Spence St, across from the U of W).

The public art project, funded by the West End BIZ and the Winnipeg Arts Council, will be installed along Balmoral Street between Ellice Avenue and Notre Dame, and remain on display for at least two years.
