It’s winter carnival time in the west

West Winnipeg

January and February is traditionally winter carnival season for community centres in and around Winnipeg. Many of us grew up playing in or watching outdoor hockey tournaments, jam pail curling events, and running into clubhouses to eat pancake breakfasts, buy a hot chocolate, hang out at the canteen and find out how the bingo was going. As we got older, we began to attend carnival events, such as teen dances or socials.

While winter carnivals aren’t as commonplace as they were 50 years ago, several community centres on the west side of the Red River still offer big winter events, including:

Corydon Community Centre (Crescentwood, River Heights and Sir John Franklin sites): Jan 20-25 – Winterfest, corydoncc.com
