Eadie emerges victorious in Mynarski

Ross Eadie emerged bruised but victorious from a heated political battle that saw him claim a win in Mynarski ward in yesterday’s civic election.

Eadie, along with expected frontrunners Jenny Motkaluk and Greg Littlejohn, separated themselves from the other three candidates in the ward.

While unofficial at the time of posting, results from city hall had Eadie as Mynarski’s councillor-elect with 4,007 votes. Motkaluk was second with 2,734 votes. Results will be declared official on Oct. 28 by the city’s senior election officer.
 
“We really worked hard for the votes,” Eadie said after results were announced at his campaign headquarters.

Jenny Motkaluk said she was proud of her campaign team’s efforts.

“We have no regrets. We had a strong platform and great messaging,” she said, noting the polls were a result of the impact her team had.

“We obviously made a positive impression on a lot of people.”

The more than 9,800 votes cast in Mynarski this year were a huge increase over the 2,400 ballots were cast in the 2006 election.

David Polsky finished fourth with 657 votes, while Trevor Mueller and John Petrinka garnered 297 and 161 votes respectively.

Eadie said the night was a culmination of years of work and ambition.

“It has really been my goal since the mid-’90s to serve the people of north Winnipeg as a city councillor,” he said.

“We made it,” he said, noting the hard work of all those who volunteered on his campaign.

Littlejohn, who finished third with 1,989, votes, declined to comment.
