The candidates running for city councillor in the Mynarski ward are Dave Capar, Ross Eadie, Greg Littlejohn and Trevor Mueller.

Name: Dave Capar

Age: 55

Occupation: Security consultant, life coach, former plant worker and union rep at Dominion Bridge Company

Why are you running? “I have volunteered my time engaging in the community through speaking at local schools and seminars. I have also had the opportunity to organize neighbourhood barbecues to bring people from all walks of life together.

I spend my leisure time in physical training, rehabilitation, physiotherapy and teaching martial arts.

Everything I have done in my life has been about serving people. I base my life on good morals, integrity and accountability which I intend to continue in my public service to the people of Winnipeg and the Mynarski ward.

After watching the goings on at city hall, it’s time for change. The focus of a councillor should be on the people of the ward, not just on city projects. At city hall we have to learn the difference between want and need. When we start comparing ourselves to other cities and seeing what they have, we have to stop and ask ourselves ‘Can we afford it?’ and ‘Do we really need it now?’ Let’s do the needs first, such as basic infrastructure. As councillor of Mynarski I will uphold these things and be a strong voice of good morals, integrity and accountability.”

Name: Ross Eadie

Age: 54

Occupation: Incumbent councillor.Former policy analyst for Government of Manitoba, Department of Labour and Immigration

Why are you running? “I am running for re-election to continue the progress we have achieved in Mynarski. See The Ross Record at www.rosseadie.ca  
Representing the Mynarski Ward, it will continue to be my mission to work with community groups to improve our lives.
Statistics don’t really reflect how people feel about our neighbourhoods, but many crime statistics are down. I spend a lot of time out on the streets of our ward, and it’s so important for us to show respect for each other which I do every day.
We have started and will continue to change others’ perceptions of the North End and West Kildonan. Mynarski is a great place to live, work and do business. Close to my 2010 commitments, my commitments for 2014 are streets and infrastructure, fair taxation, crime reduction, pride of place, accountability and transparency, and traffic safety.”

Name: Greg Littlejohn

Age: 61

Occupation: Lawyer

Why are you running? “I entered the campaign because I believe our ward is being neglected by city hall, compared with the investment it makes in the other wards. Mynarski is a diverse ward, culturally and economically, and has needs that differ from other parts of the city.
City hall has been shaken by real estate scandals and cost overruns on major projects. This past winter has exposed the serious problems we have with our roads and other infrastructure. Prior to becoming a lawyer, I worked for the City of Winnipeg for six years in sewer and sidewalk construction, road repair and in the water and waste departments.
I am independent and believe that partisan politics do not belong at city hall. I offer the knowledge and skills needed to deal with the serious issues we face at city hall.”

Name: Trevor Mueller

Age: 38

Occupation: Construction surveyor

Why are you running? “The amount of corruption in politics is so overwhelming and we need to change that. We need good honest people in city hall. No more back room deals. Recent events in the city have drawn me to focus on helping bring the voice of the neighbourhood back into the forefront. There is no city without community and there is no community without you and I working together.”
