An emotional moment at the legislature

On Dec. 5, I was presented with a framed member’s statement at the Manitoba Legislature. Jamie Moses, MLA for St. Vital, read the statement to the legislature and after he had finished, all of the MLAs rose, turned in my direction in the gallery and gave me a standing ovation. Wow! I was taken by surprise and it was pretty emotional.

We so often see in the news and during election campaigns how the parties slam each other. To see act in harmony on International Volunteer Day was a wonderful sight… and very classy. It was an honour to be there and I am very appreciative to Jamie for considering me and the St. Vital Museum.

Here is an excerpt from Jamie’s message:

“Today, I recognize John Hindle, the president of the St. Vital Museum and Historical Society and the entire team. He became the president earlier this year following the passing of long-time president, Bob Holliday.

“John, who is with us here in the gallery today, grew up in St. Vital and is an alumnus of Dakota Collegiate. His passion for baseball materialized into the creation of Home Run Sports…and in 1994, he made history as the first general manager of the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club. He was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004 and is a distinguished author, earning acclaim for his work, including the award-winning Jackrabbits in the Outfield.

“I invite all Manitobans to visit the St. Vital Museum to take a look at all the amazing artifacts that have been collected that tell the story of St. Vital.
