Hey there, time traveller!

It’s the season of unlimited photos of vacations and cabin adventures on social media but if you’re on a tight budget with no wiggle room for travel, you might start to feel a little left out.
Luckily, Transcona has a variety of activities and places to explore to make any staycation a great experience.
If you’re looking for a real away-from-home feeling, book a room at the Canad Inns Club Regent Casino Hotel (1415 Regent Ave. W) or check out Algonquin Park Bed and Breakfast (20 Wiebes Dr.), which is located near the beautiful Bunn’s Creek (northwest of Transcona).
Stretch away your worries at Moksha Yoga Kildonan (440-1615 Regent Ave. W) which offers hot yoga classes for beginners and experienced yogis. To enjoy a little pampering, head to Pelo Loco Salon & Spa at 250 Panet Rd., where you can choose from a variety of services, including manicures, pedicures, facials, massages and body treatments, hair care, makeup application, and waxing/sugaring. Continue the relaxation experience by sipping some coffee and treating yourself to one of the amazing desserts on offer at Dolce Bake Shop (1565 Regent Ave. W.).
If spending time outdoors is more your thing, take a walk through the Transcona Bioreserve off of Gunn Road, a former industrial site that has been restored to a natural park. Look for a variety of birds and small animals as you walk the trails through prairie grassland and forested areas. Another local nature preserve can be found at the Rotary Tall Grass Nature Park, located on Regent Avenue West. Walking paths wind through rare sections of natural tall grass prairie and smaller forested areas.
Sports lovers can play a round of golf at the Transcona Golf Club, which offers public tee times at a course that is suitable for all skill levels. Follow it up with a cold beverage and hot food at Browns Socialhouse, (207-1750 Plessis Rd.) where you can also watch your favourite team play on one of the restaurant’s multiple screens.
History buffs will appreciate the exhibits and artifacts on display at the Transcona Museum (141 Regent Ave. W) which aims to preserve and share the area’s past. The museum also offers Historic Downtown Transcona and Murals of Transcona guided walking tours in the summer, which are free and held on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Those with little ones in their lives will find plenty of local activities to keep them busy, from bowling at Chateau Lanes (1145 Nairn Ave.), to painting pottery at Crock A Doodle (1605 Regent Ave. W), to going a little bonkers at Jack Pott’s Thrill Zone (2-1609 Regent Ave. W).
This summer, stay, play, and enjoy what Transcona has to offer!
