In November, I attended the South Osborne BIZ annual general meeting.

It was really good to hear about the ongoing Streetscaping Enhancement Project. The BIZ is currently putting in bike racks/corrals, trees and fencing in South Osborne. In addition to the regular seasonal plants they provide, this enhancement project will go a long way to showcase the unique charm and beauty of South Osborne’s park-like setting.

And if the current crop of new South Osborne businesses is anything to go by, the BIZ promotion efforts are having a good effect! Launched by Chaeban Ice Cream which opened last December, the area has enjoyed a steady influx of new enterprises bolstered by enhanced locations of established businesses.

In early January, Oxbow Restaurant opened its doors and has since earned lots of praise and many customers.

In the summer, Leopold’s Tavern and Mama Joe’s Foodie Collective enlivened our community with their innovative operations.

If you love tea, this year we have a new tea shop called tea mate at 719 Osborne.

Within the last few weeks, Little Sister Coffee Maker has opened up a new location on Osborne and Morley. Under the same roof as the popular coffee shop are a number of other businesses including, among others, a clothing designer called tonychestnut, a hair salon called Spruced and a pop-up eyeglass shop called G is for Glasses. What a lot of energy in that building!

Further altering the retail landscape are some major changes to an established businesses. Our wonderful Park Theatre is currently undergoing renovations to its façade and will eventually boast a new digital sign.

So whether you are checking out the fascinating new members of our business community or enjoying visits to our old favourites, be sure and pay a visit to South Osborne sometime soon.

Now if we can only do something about the Rubin Block!
