Kildonan Park is a jewel in north Winnipeg. Over the past several years, the city has invested in many redevelopments at Kildonan Park, such as the new playground, upgraded swimming pool and a new spray pad.

In my time on city council, I have advocated for continued developments at Kildonan Park. It is a park I enjoy regularly with my own family, and I know many of you do too, and so I am committed to building a lasting legacy at this vital community green space.

This summer, pending council approval on May 29, I am personally excited to see WOW Hospitality open a new restaurant and café at Peguis Pavilion in the park. It will be an amenity that will be enjoyed greatly.

WOW Hospitality brings a wealth of experience and expertise and will create a Canadian regional cuisine concept at the Pavilion that will focus on fresh, simple and pure food. Menus will change frequently, focusing on what is in season.

The vision is for a laid-back atmosphere.  A neighborhood restaurant where people gather to enjoy simply prepared food made fresh from local ingredients. I have advocated for service at breakfast, lunch and dinner as I’ve had a lot of dialogue with constituents on this and also feel full service hours is something park visitors in general would like.

Who wants to take a stroll in the park in the morning and not be able to purchase a cup of coffee?

There are other developments at the pavilion that people will certainly appreciate.

New heating and air conditioning systems have been installed. The lower-level public washrooms and changing area have been upgraded, and a new family washroom has been added as well an elevator all making the facility more accessible.

This spring, landscaping around the pavilion has begun, including renovations to the duck pond, which is being retrofitted to allow for better flow. I know many people will be happy to have the upgraded skating pond back next winter after it was closed due to the renovations this past winter.

But first, let’s all enjoy many long summer days at the park and welcome our new neighbours at the pavilion.
