Gwen Secter receives milestone honour from the mayor

Mayor Sam Katz presents Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre President Judy Kaplan the Organizational Community Service Award during the organization’s 25th anniversary dinner May 23.

The award is given to local groups that have “demonstrated excellence and outstanding achievement in any field of endeavor, benefitting the social, cultural, or economic well-being of their community,” according to the mayor’s office.

The National Council For Jewish Women started the centre, located at 1588 Main St., to give seniors a social gathering place, and offers a full range of recreation, educational and cultural services, including fitness and nutrition programs.
