Indoor spray pad planned for Seven Oaks Pool

Last month I announced that Seven Oaks Pool will receive a much-needed revitalization.
Winnipeg’s first indoor spray pad will be constructed as an addition to the front of the existing building, along with a wading pool. New, modern change rooms with improved accessibility for all will better meet the needs of families utilizing the pool. The upgrades will also include renovations to the public spaces, creating a fresh appearance.

This project, costing $4.95 million, is spearheaded through Winnipeg’s Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program. This program amalgamates and enhances the former Community Park Amenities and Playground Structures programs.

I championed this project and worked diligently on it for some time. Our regional park, Kildonan Park, has a large outdoor pool and spray pad. However, within the Old Kildonan ward, Seven Oaks Pool is our only aquatic option.

This facility will provide quality, affordable family recreation 12 months of the year, regardless of the season. The enhancements will promote healthy and active living. As a mother to a young child and through conversations I have had with families in the community, I know how valuable year-round facilities are, especially given the cold winter months we often experience here in our city.

Community residents and daycares have already mentioned they are pleased that this will provide one more option where children can go with family, friends, and caregivers. I can see this spray pad becoming a favourite place for schools and daycares to add to their field trip list.
Renovations to the public space and change rooms will take place this year in addition to the detailed design process for the spray pad and wading pool. Construction for the spray pad and wading pool will begin in 2015.
