The North Winnipeg Nomads are fighting cancer with flag football.
The local football club will host its inaugural Never Alone Football Classic on Sat., Sept. 26 at Markus Howell Field at Charlie Krupp Stadium. Proceeds from the flag football tournament go to the Never Alone Foundation, a national registered charity committed to improving the lives of people affected by cancer.
The event, presented by Ivan’s Autobody & Glass, will feature community teams competing in a round robin flag football tourney. The teams, including a squad from the Winnipeg Police Service, will be coached by Winnipeg Blue Bombers alumni, including former offensive linemen Lyle Bauer and David Black, the co-chairs of the Never Alone Foundation.
“It’s simply an honour to have our local heroes be able to come to our field, our gridiron and show their support not only for the Nomads but the Never Alone Foundation. We admire all these organizations and we’re proud to be part of such a community event,” said Nomads president Nathan Yamron in a press release.
The public is invited to take in the flag football action. A burger and bevie award celebration will follow the tournament at Canad Inns Garden City (2100 McPhillips St.) at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.neveralonefoundation.ca
