A local restaurant mogul will lead the Liberals in St. Johns.

On Dec. 18, the Manitoba Liberal Party announced Noel Bernier as its candidate in Point Douglas constituency for the upcoming provincial election.

However, on Dec. 30, the Liberals announced Althea Guiboche, ‘The Bannock Lady’, as the party’s candidate in Point Douglas, with Bernier sliding over to the St. Johns constituency.

Bernier, who is Métis, is the president of FB Hospitality Group and owns such Winnipeg restaurants as Hermanos Restaurant and Wine Bar, Barley Brothers and Prairie 360.

“I am honoured to have Althea join our team and to be a part of a new voice for the North End. I am excited to work with her as my running mate in the core of Winnipeg,” said Bernier in a Dec. 30 press release.

“It’s time for the province to take action on truth and reconciliation and I am committed to that. This is our way forward as a community,” said Bernier in a Dec. 18 press release.

The 41st general election in Manitoba is scheduled for April 19.
