The 33 Maples transit bus is being extended into Amber Trails, bringing all-day everyday bus service right through the heart of our neighbourhood.  I have been pushing for this much-needed extension, so seeing it approved in the 2017 City of Winnipeg budget is great. It will start on Sun., Sept.  3.

Amber Trails has been served by the 17 McGregor for many years, and a couple of years ago the 35 Maples Super Express was extended into our neighbourhood to provide fast rush-hour bus service to downtown. But with the continued growth, more bus service was needed, and now the 33 Maples will run along Strasbourg and Templeton, Pipeline, Amber Gate, Amber Trail and Allan Blye. The route will still be called the 33 Maples, even with this extension.

Part of this includes a slight change for a few riders in The Maples, because the 33 won’t run on the short stretch of Jefferson Avenue between Manila Road and Mandalay Drive anymore. However, anyone who catches a 33 Maples bus on this short stretch of Jefferson right now will only have a five-minute walk to either Mandalay and Jefferson or Manila and Jefferson.

The expanded service will still have the same operating hours as it does now – from 5:30 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 7:30 a.m. until 1 a.m. on Sundays. The frequency will stay the same during the day on weekdays and Saturdays, but in the evenings on weekdays and Saturdays, plus all day Sunday, it will improve from a bus every 40 minutes to a bus every 33 minutes. The new schedules will be available at www.winnipegtransit.com during the last week of August.

This is an exciting development for Amber Trails and is part of the City’s continuous commitment to provide top-quality transit service to all of our citizens.

As always, if you would like to speak to me further about this, or any other city matter, feel free to stop by my community office at 646 Leila Ave., call me at 204-986-5264 or email devi@winnipeg.ca
